Former OCPA President Hopper Smith being deployed to Afghanistan

June 1, 2011

Former OCPA President and Army National Guard Colonel Hopper Smith is being deployed to Afghanistan this month as part of the 45th Infantry Brigade.

Hopper served as OCPA President from June 2007 until January 2009, and was a dedicated advocate for free markets and liberty.

“Hopper Smith is absolutely a hero and a true friend to Oklahoma,” said OCPA president Michael Carnuccio. “His life to date can best be described as one of service. He has served both our nation as a member of the military and our state as a member of the House of Representatives. He is a true statesman and led OCPA as President with diligence and enthusiasm. Our prayers are with Hopper for safety while he is deployed and for his family who remains here in Oklahoma.”

Smith is currently President at Strategic Resources Consulting. He was a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1996 until 2003, when he humbly resigned his seat to serve a tour in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army. In his 20-plus years as a member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard, Smith has earned the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star for bravery.
