About OCPA

Below are some victories in which OCPA’s research and advocacy played an important role—sometimes the decisive role—in changing public policy.

  • EDUCATIONAL FREEDOM.

With a public-school open-transfer law and three private-school choice programs, every student in Oklahoma now has school freedom.

  • REOPENING OKLAHOMA.

OCPA was a leading voice in calling for a prompt reopening of businesses during the government-imposed shutdowns of 2020.

  • WORKERS’ COMPENSATION REFORM.

With this landmark reform, Oklahoma is protecting workers and saving money for employers—instead of enriching lawyers.

  • PROTECTING CHILDREN.

Oklahoma law now keeps boys out of the girls’ bathroom and bans sex-change surgeries for minors.

  • TAX CUTS.

Oklahoma has reduced corporate and personal income-tax rates and now has a roadmap for eliminating the income tax altogether.

  • PENSION REFORM.

Oklahoma transformed its state-government pension system—the state treasurer called it “an important fiscal milestone in the history of our state”—and has resisted subsequent attempts to roll back the reform.

  • CLEAN SLATE.

By allowing automatic expungement of certain lower-level criminal convictions, Oklahomans who have served their sentences can now become productive members of society, making them less likely to reoffend.

  • FREE SPEECH.

OCPA is leading the effort to make sure Oklahomans have legal recourse against frivolous lawsuits that are intended to chill free speech.

  • STOPPING STATE-SANCTIONED RACISM.

Oklahoma law now bans race-based Marxist instruction in Oklahoma classrooms.

  • TORT REFORM.

After several years of progress in preventing lawsuit abuse (later partially rolled back by the Oklahoma Supreme Court), Oklahoma became a national leader in providing fair and balanced civil justice.

  • WORKPLACE FREEDOM.

Oklahoma law now prevents labor unions from forcing employees to pay union dues as a condition of employment.

  • EXECUTIVE-BRANCH REFORM.

State government is now more effective and efficient since the governor has the power to hire and fire certain agency heads.
